Alcohol & Parties

Consuming alcohol is an individual choice that everyone must make by themselves.

If you to engage in drinking alcohol, we encourage you to consume alcohol responsibly.

Alcohol abuse and dependence are real issues. If you are concerned for a fellow resident, friend or yourself who are struggling to maintain a safe environment for themselves or for others please reach out to any member of the Team.

  • Know your drink! Different drinks have different alcohol levels — beer, cider, wine, spirits, and more.

  • Stick with your friends the whole time you’re out.

  • Set your drink limit before you start.

  •  Pace yourself — about one drink per hour keeps things smooth.

  • Eat before drinking to help your body handle alcohol better.

  • Skip drinking games — fun in the moment, not always fun later!

  • Alternate drinks: one alcoholic drink, one non-alcoholic drink.

  • Keep count of how many drinks you’ve had.

  • Choose one type of drink and stick with it through the night.

Intramural Championship
2026

What is the Intramural Championship?
The Intramural Championship is a holistic program that gives student residents an opportunity to engage in healthy competition and be recognized for their efforts and contribution to building an inclusive and connected student community.

Building a community across the University

  • Student residents of the 16 University-owned accommodation, Colleges, and private providers are invited to participate.

  • Intramural Captains who represent their Residence and support and promote the Intramural Championship.

  • Residential staff from each Residence who support the Intramural Championship and the Intramural Captains.

  • Partners who enable the program including Sydney University Sports and Student Wellbeing.

  • Student Life who coordinates and enable the programs delivery and are the key contact for the program.

Our values

The Intramural Championship aims to unite students living in University-owned and affiliated Residences and create a vibrant community where every student resident feels a strong sense of connection and belonging.

Our program prioritises:

  • Social connection with opportunities to connect across the residences

  • Wellbeing and Health with an extensive social sports calendar

  • Academic Readiness with activities supporting students’ academic journeys

  • Cross-cultural understanding by committing to activities that are inclusive and relevant to our diverse student body

  • Student partnership by empowering students to have leadership roles and active  role in shaping residential activities.

How does the competition work?

When student residents participate in the Intramural Championship, they can accrue intramural points that are tallied throughout the year. Residences that garner the highest number of points are recognised at our Intramural Championship Gala Dinner. Individual events may also have a cash prize associated.

Legacy Trophies up for grabs

To cement the legacy for each winning team from the participating residences across Intramural Championship events, we keep a long tradition of rotating trophies where the winning residence names are engraved.

  • (NEW) Intramural Champions Cup - For the residence that has accumulated the most points across all the intramural program except the sporting competitions.

  • Thomas Whalan Cup – For the residence that has accumulated the most points in intramural sports (male category)

  • Liane Tooth Cup - For the residence that has accumulated the most points in intramural sports (female category)
